New England Wildflower Society - Field Identification Techniques

Equip yourself with the skills and confidence you need to identify native plants in the field. Learn how to use field guides and professional keys, observe floral structures, recognize reliable family characteristics, and become familiar with botanical Latin. This course is designed for students who have taken the Society’s Wildflowers of New England course or have some previous experience identifying wildflowers. Bring a hand lens and a bag lunch.  Mondays, September 21, 28, October 5, 1-5 p.m.

Fun, friendly dance classes with Liz Nania of OUT to Dance start on Monday, Sept. 28. Salsa and Merengue (8 Monday classes, 8-9pm)  You’ll love learning the hottest dances worldwide: salsa is a beautiful, sexy and elegant dance, and merengue is incredibly simple, upbeat and intuitive. If you don’t already know and love salsa music, you will; and merengue can be danced to most any club or dance party music, and of course, merengue music!  No dance experience or partner required.

Come work alongside us to beautify our neighborhood. We’ll be taking notices off street poles, planting daffodils, and spreading mulch on street trees along Centre Street.

Halloween at Fenway Park

The Red Sox invite fans to celebrate Halloween with two free and open-to-the-public events. Fans are invited to attend “Halloween at Fenway Park” on Saturday, October 31, when children and adults will have a chance to trick-or-treat around the warning track. Fans will also have the opportunity to enter their carved pumpkins into a contest at the ballpark on Thursday, October 29.

Trick-or-treating will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on October 31. The outfield will be adorned with Halloween decorations as costumed staff hand out candy. Wally the Green Monster will be present, along with the three World Series trophies, balloon artists, face painters, caricaturists, and stilt walker “Big League Brian.” Hi-Chew will donate candy for the event. Costumes are encouraged.

Continued for an additional week due to popular demand, Belkin Family Lookout Farm, Metrowest’s beloved destination for outdoor family fun, is pleased to offer all guests one free pumpkin in any size with each paid admission (while supplies last) on October 24th and 25th. Open everyday from 10:00am to 5:00pm, the farm is currently picking Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Shizuka, Jonagold, and Cortland apples, as well as Asian Pears. The pumpkin patch is open, as well as the fall pumpkin display – making for the perfect family photo opportunity.

Throughout October, the farm will continue to offer their regular live entertainment for the whole family such as the kids play area, the treasured train and caterpillar rides, farm animals, farm maze, hay pyramid, moon bounce, the Busy Bee Learning Center, Lego tables and face-painting. Each weekend, the activities kick-off with pony and camel rides, hayrides, The BBQ Express and live children’s entertainment (shows at 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm and 3:00pm). In addition, the U-Barn features freshly baked pies, a variety of fruit from the orchards, their own honey, and many more treats. Seasoned firewood is also available, so you can keep Belkin Family Lookout Farm with you throughout the winter months.
